Arsenal handed fresh Martin Odegaard injury worry in Fulham clash with star’s ankle concern

Arsenal have been handed a new injury concern for club captain Martin Odegaard in the side’s clash with Fulham on Sunday.

The playmaker had faced an issue earlier in the campaign, sidelining him for months after suffering an ankle issue while away with Norway.

Odegaard returned from injury in fine form in November, with the star helping Arsenal return to their very best with some good performances.

With a difficult first-half performance away at Fulham, a fresh injury concern for the club captain came as a new worry on more than one occasion.

Arsenal handed new Martin Odegaard injury concern

During the early moments of the game, Arsenal started well but were unable to capitalise with a goal of their own.

Fulham turned the tables when Raul Jimenez ran beyond Jakub Kiwior and slotted home a fine finish into the bottom corner.

Things got a bit worse early on as Martin Odegaard was seen crouching down with what seemed like an injury issue.

He continued on through the half but just before half-time, the midfielder went down under a challenge from international teammate Sander Berge.

Odegaard stayed on the floor, holding his ankle and rolling around in some pain before finally getting up to finish the remaining minutes of stoppage time.

Arsenal will be hopeful that it isn’t a reoccurrence of the previous injury Odegaard had earlier in the season that kept him out for a while, though he managed to come out for the second half against Fulham.

It remains to be seen just how serious it could be, with some big games coming out for the Gunners.

Arsenal options to replace Martin Odegaard

It won’t be a dissimilar situation to last time Arteta faced an injury issue with Odegaard, if he is facing some time out, though he may approach things differently.

The Gunners occasionally moved to a 4-4-2 like formation, with Leandro Trossard often played just behind Kai Havertz.

However, a chance for Ethan Nwaneri to impress may be available to Mikel Arteta, though he didn’t favour the youngster last time.

With his first goal under his belt and some growing experience, there may be a chance for him to feature in matches up ahead.

With a mixture of Champions League, Premier League and EFL Cup fixtures up ahead, it may be time to give Odegaard a rest and lean on the youngster instead.
