Arsenal were able to record a vital victory against Manchester United on Wednesday night.
After Liverpool were held to a 3-3 draw by Newcastle United, Arsenal were able to reduce the Reds’ lead at the top of the Premier League table as they secured a 2-0 win at the Emirates Stadium.
Jurrien Timber nodded home from a Declan Rice corner in the second half, before William Saliba bundled in a second to condemn Manchester United to defeat in North London.
It was not a vintage display from the Gunners, as Thomas Partey was particularly poor, but Mikel Arteta’s side were ultimately able to get the job done.

Arsenal make history with win over Manchester United
The hosts were heavy favourites heading into this match. Paul Merson expected Arsenal to “destroy” Manchester United.
Whilst it didn’t quite plan out like that, Arsenal are now enjoying a period of true dominance over the Red Devils. Tonight’s result means that the Gunners have now beaten the Old Trafford outfit in four consecutive league games for the first time in history.
All of these four wins have come with Arteta at the helm, and the Spanish coach deserves enormous credit for how effective he has made his side when it comes to their head-to-head clashes with fellow ‘big six’ teams.
The Gunners have real momentum behind them now, and will have renewed Premier League title belief after Liverpool’s slip up.
The rivalry between Arsenal and Man United
There has long been a fearsome and bitter rivalry between these two giants of English football.
Between the late 1990s and the early 2000s, Arsenal and Manchester United consistently vied for major honours, with Arsene Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson in charge of each club, respectively.
Martin Keown recently reflected on this golden era of rivalry. The feud between Arsenal and Manchester United is still alive and well, though.
Although neither club is a truly dominate force in the Premier League at the moment, the history of this fixture will always make it special.
