Leandro Trossard and Eberechi Eze struggled as Arsenal beat Chelsea 2-1 at the Emirates in the Premier League.
Chelsea made it very difficult for Arsenal, and while the Gunners were nowhere near their best, they got the job done to claim an essential three points.
The corner goals returned as William Saliba and Jurrien Timber scored the vital goals, on an afternoon that saw Arsenal’s defence offer more in the final third than their attack.
Arsenal Insider’s player ratings reflect that, so, without further ado, here’s how the Arsenal squad rated against Chelsea.

Arsenal player ratings vs Chelsea
David Raya – 8
Raya produced yet another extraordinary save this season by denying Chelsea a goal in the first half. The goalkeeper would have been frustrated that his teammates didn’t learn from their first mistake, as Chelsea scored from an identical corner routine seconds later.
Jurrien Timber – 7
Arsenal fans might miss Ben White’s influence in attack over Timber, but the Dutchman made his presence known against Chelsea. Constantly in the final third, Timber was hungry to leave an impact on the game, and he did that with his goal.
William Saliba – 7
Saliba will be happy that his goal was awarded to him. Aside from celebrating his first goal of the season, the Frenchman had his work cut out with Joao Pedro, as seen by the defender’s frequent grapple of the striker’s shirt.

Gabriel Magalhaes – 6.5
Gabriel was absolutely unstoppable in setting up Saliba’s goal, but just like Saliba, his real test came from keeping Chelsea at bay.
Piero Hincapie – 6.5
Hincapie’s performance against Chelsea will be clouded by his own goal, but it should by no means be overlooked. The Ecuadorian played exceptionally well aside from that, showing tireless energy and much-needed aggression in an otherwise lacklustre collective performance.
Martin Zubimendi – 4
Zubimendi has looked tired for a long time, and that was no different against Chelsea. The first half was a calamity for the Spaniard, who was playing wayward passes and losing his man far too often.
Declan Rice – 5
It was an uncharacteristically questionable performance from Rice, who was fortunate to escape having a penalty awarded against him in the first half. Like Zubimendi, the Englishman’s presence in midfield wasn’t as strong as Arteta would’ve hoped.
Answer honestly, was Declan Rice lucky to escape punishment here?
Eberechi Eze – 3
After his heroics against Tottenham, like clockwork, Eze returned to a far lesser performance level. The playmaker offered very little to Arsenal’s attack on an occasion when so many eyes were on him.
Leandro Trossard – 2
Trossard was hooked in the 56th minute, and rightly so. It was an abysmal performance from the Belgian, whose match was summed up by his terrible pass in the first half that denied Arsenal a counter-attack. This Arsenal side is screaming out for a top-class winger.
Bukayo Saka – 8
You won’t be surprised to learn that Arsenal’s sole source of threat was Saka, but even the winger couldn’t influence the game, mostly due to his underperforming attacking teammates.
Viktor Gyokeres – 5
Gyokeres’s effort to make a nuisance of himself can’t be knocked, but his actual contribution was nothing to note. He’ll be wishing he could play Tottenham every week.
Gabriel Martinelli – 5
Martinelli was introduced to bring chaos, and he did with his pace, but aside from that, he did very little else, which is becoming frustratingly typical of the Brazilian.
Kai Havertz – 6.5
Havertz’s introduction handed Arsenal the technical spark they were dearly missing in attack. Given the German’s record against Chelsea, it was no surprise to see him look busy from the moment he came on. A huge boost for Arsenal to have him back.
Christian Norgaard – 6
Seeing Norgaard come on was worthy of a 6/10 rating in itself, as the Dane has deserved to play a lot more football than he has. His experience and composure were a welcome sight as the game entered the final quarter.
