Arsenal will be seeking to get back to winning ways when they welcome Shakhtar Donetsk to the Emirates Stadium for a Champions League clash on Tuesday evening.

After Arsenal suffered their first defeat of the season so far against Bournemouth on Saturday, Mikel Arteta will demand an immediate response from his side.

The Spanish coach also has some difficult selection decisions to make heading into this fixture.

Arsenal team and injury news ahead of Shakhtar Donetsk

Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka are struggling at the moment. The Norwegian playmaker has been ruled out for the visit of Shakhtar Donetsk completely, whilst the winger is a doubt for this game having picked up a knock with England during the international break.

The Gunners will also have to wait to see if Jurrien Timber is fit enough to be involved against the Ukrainian outfit. Meanwhile, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Kieran Tierney both remain sidelined.

William Saliba seeking redemption

William Saliba will feature in this match, and will be keen to make amends for his error against the Cherries.

Arsenal will be without Saliba against Liverpool on Sunday, after the French centre-back was sent off for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity against Bournemouth last time out.

The 23-year-old has been given a one-match suspension for that infraction, but as that ban only counts for Premier League fixtures he is free to take part in this Champions League showdown.

It remains to be seen if Arsenal will appeal against Saliba’s red card.

Ethan Nwaneri in predicted Arsenal XI vs Shakhtar Donetsk

Ethan Nwaneri will be desperate to make his Champions League debut on Tuesday, and the Hale End academy starlet is certainly ready to compete at that level.

Arteta provoked the ire of Arsenal fans by not starting the 17-year-old against Bournemouth, and the manager will not want to repeat the mistake of not selecting a midfield creator to deputise for Odegaard.

Oleksandr Zinchenko was an unused substitute against Bournemouth, but will be keen to play against the club from his home country and is in need of game time to raise his sharpness. Jorginho is another in need of minutes.

Whilst Saka may be declared fit for this match, Arteta can’t afford to take any unnecessary risks with the talismanic winger. Therefore, Raheem Sterling ought to keep his starting berth, though Gabriel Jesus will also make a claim for this role.

David Raya; Ben White, William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes, Oleksandr Zinchenko; Jorginho, Mikel Merino, Ethan Nwaneri; Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Martinelli, Kai Havertz.
