Gabriel Magalhaes had an afternoon to remember at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as Arsenal beat Spurs in the North London derby.
It was a derby to remember once more for Mikel Arteta, as his side secured their third consecutive win away to Tottenham.
While the game was stereotypically well contested when it came to challenges, the match winner came from an unlikely source, as Gabriel Magalhaes put the visitors ahead in the 64th minute.
The centre-back fired Bukayo Saka’s corner past Guglielmo Vicario to see the away end erupt, with the defender’s strike being decisive to the direction of the three points.

Arsenal’s Gabriel hits Premier League scoring record
It was a memorable day for reasons beyond scoring the match winner and keeping another clean sheet away from home.
By scoring from Saka’s corner, Gabriel not only put the Gunners ahead but also set a new Premier League scoring record.
The Brazilian became the Premier League’s highest scoring player from non-penalty set pieces in four years.
Since the 2020/21 season, Gabriel has scored 15 goals from non-penalty set pieces, overtaking Nottingham Forest’s James Ward-Prowse to take the crown.
Other notable names in the list below the Arsenal defender are Mohamed Salah and Ivan Toney, who have 12 goals, with Harry Kane just behind on 11.
Gabriel has not only become a wall in Arteta’s defence, but also a figure to be reckoned with from set pieces, as Tottenham’s defence are now also aware of.
Gabriel was key to Arsenal’s win over Spurs
It was not only an afternoon that saw Gabriel rise as the match winner and a record breaker, as the 26-year-old was named as Sky Sports’ man of the match against Spurs.
The defender was truly a man mountain against the Lilywhites, not just in the final third as he snubbed out most of the hosts’ danger when protecting David Raya’s goal.
Gabriel made an exemplary seven clearances, two tackles and two blocks at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, as well as winning three of the four duels he was involved in, via Sofascore.
Paired with William Saliba, it doesn’t take a lot to realise the importance of Gabriel in Arteta’s XI, with the Brazil international’s stance now made even clearer.
