Arsenal glided past Preston North End to progress in the EFL Cup with a victory at Deepdale.

It was another night to remember in the cup for Ethan Nwaneri, who scored a sensational goal on only his second start for Arsenal. 

The 17-year-old netted a masterful curler from the edge of the box and was joined on the scoresheet by Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz.

Mikel Arteta’s side progressed into the next round of the EFL Cup with a comfortable 3-0 win over the Championship outfit, with several stars shining bright at Deepdale.

Jakub Kiwior impressed against Preston North End in EFL Cup

While Nwaneri and co will rightfully get the headlines, there was another Arsenal ace who deserves high praise for his performance against Preston.

That player was Jakub Kiwior, who after receiving a host of criticism for his recent displays, was incredibly influential in the cup tie.

Starting at centre-back alongside William Saliba, the Poland international was surprisingly highly successful going forward, as he shocked many by producing two assists on the night.

Kiwior set up both Havertz and Jesus’ goals in impressive fashion, going from centre-half to playmaking extraordinaire at Deepdale.

It’s something that Arsenal have become used to this week, as Ben White assisted Bukayo Saka against Liverpool before Kiwior contributed to the goals from defence in the cup.

Kiwior has redeemed himself after Mikel Arteta embarrassment

Amid the Gunners’ defensive injury and suspension woes, Kiwior has been called upon more frequently by Arteta. 

Against Bournemouth, the Arsenal manager humiliated Kiwior by subbing the defender on and then off during the Premier League defeat at the Vitality. 

The gap between Arsenal’s first and second choice defenders has become evident as a result of Arteta’s need to rotate, with the Poland international earning far from rave reviews of late. 

Things were fortunately different for Kiwior against Preston, as the 24-year-old redeemed himself in the most unlikely of ways with an attacking masterclass.
