Arsenal were so close to setting a new Champions League record against Kairat Almaty.
Mikel Arteta’s side dominated the game against the champions of Kazakhstan and should’ve scored six or seven with the chances they had.
However, the first-half strikes from Viktor Gyokeres, Kai Havertz and Gabriel Martinelli were all that Arsenal managed to get on the board on Wednesday night.
Despite that, the Gunners were on track to set a record in the Champions League, but that dream was crushed in the final seconds of the game.

Arsenal missed out on a new Champions League record vs Kairat Almaty
Arsenal were the best team in the league phase of the Champions League.
The Gunners won each of their eight games in the first stage of the competition and deservedly finished on top of the table.
Before the clash against Kairat, Arsenal had won seven games in a row, all with at least a two-goal margin.
No team in the history of the Champions League or the European Cup had managed eight consecutive wins by two goals or more.
After going 3-1 up, Arsenal had the chance to set that record, but their hearts were broken in the final seconds of stoppage time.
Ricardinho scored for Kairat with virtually the last kick of the game, and reduced his side’s deficit to just one goal.
The game, thus, ended 3-2.

Arsenal set a different Champions League record after beating Kairat
It would’ve been great if Arsenal had become the first team to win eight consecutive Champions League games with a two-goal margin, but it wasn’t meant to be.
However, the Gunners did set a new record in the competition on Wednesday night.
The Premier League leaders became the only team in the Champions League to win all eight league phase games. That is a great achievement, but this format has only been around for a couple of years.
It will be interesting to see how long it will take for another team to win every game in the league phase.
We won’t be surprised if Arsenal do it themselves next season.
