Bukayo Saka scored to help Arsenal beat West Ham United in the Premier League.
The Gunners went into the London derby with some negative history. They had lost each of their last two games against the Hammers at the Emirates.
That must have been on some players’ minds, but West Ham never looked like they could threaten Mikel Arteta’s side on Saturday.
Declan Rice scored Arsenal’s opener, and Saka sealed the win with a brilliantly struck penalty in the second half in what was a milestone game for him.
Bukayo Saka emulates Thierry Henry during Arsenal vs West Ham United
Thierry Henry is Arsenal’s biggest legend.
The Frenchman is the club’s highest goalscorer and holds several incredible records that stand even to this day.
It is no secret that Bukayo Saka looks up to Henry, and the Arsenal number seven can now say that he has emulated the legendary striker.
20 years ago, in 2005, Henry played his 200th game for Arsenal. He scored in that fixture and became the only Gunners player in history to find the net on their 200th appearance.
The clash against West Ham United at the Emirates was Saka’s 200th game, and he has now become the second-ever Arsenal player to score on this landmark day.
Furthermore, Saka’s penalty takes him to 100 direct goal contributions in the Premier League. He is just the eighth player in the club’s history to do so, and the second-youngest after Cesc Fabregas.
The fact that the England international has achieved all of this at the age of 24 is truly remarkable.
What Thierry Henry texted Bukayo Saka before Arsenal vs West Ham
Henry and Saka share a great relationship off the pitch.
The Arsenal legend is always there to offer advice to the Gunners’ number seven, and he also does his bit to motivate him.
After the win against West Ham, Saka revealed that he received a message from Henry, reminding him that the Irons had beaten his side in their last two visits to the Emirates.
Saka said on Sky Sports: “He messaged me this morning as well to remind me that we lost our last two games against West Ham at home.
“He’s always pushing me. I think he wants me there with him, so it’s nice to have that encouragement from him.”
