A game against Manchester City stands between Arsenal and their dream of winning the Premier League title.

The clash at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday is viewed by many as the fixture that will decide who becomes the English champions this season.

Arsenal are currently six points clear at the top of the table, but Pep Guardiola’s men have a game in hand, which would put them in touching distance of the title should they beat the Gunners.

Two popular pundits have now backed that to happen.

Paul Merson and Chris Sutton both think Manchester City will beat Arsenal

Manchester City will go into the game against Arsenal as the favourites to win it because they are playing at home.

The Gunners haven’t won a game at the Etihad Stadium since that Santi Cazorla masterclass over a decade ago.

That is really concerning ahead of a game of such magnitude, especially considering the fact that Arsenal have lost each of their last three domestic games.

Paul Merson and Chris Sutton both feel the Gunners will end up on the losing side.

On Sportskeeda, Merson wrote: “I don’t know what Arsenal turn up for this game. They need to take the game to City here. I’m desperately trying to make a case for Arsenal, but I’m finding it extremely hard to do so. My heart says draw, but my head says Manchester City win.

“Football is so unpredictable, and Arsenal will be hoping this game goes in their favour against all odds. But the way they’ve been playing is a big concern.”

Merson’s prediction: Manchester City 1-0 Arsenal

Sutton wrote on BBC Sport: “I covered Arsenal’s draw with Sporting on Wednesday for 5 Live. The Gunners are good defensively, and got through the tie pretty comfortably, but their problem is that they don’t look like they are going to score.

“There are still a lot of things that are good about Mikel Arteta’s side with the way they press and how organised they are, but they are struggling to break teams down. They are lacking that bit of flair in the final third, which is where you fancy City really, but then Arsenal don’t need to win this game either.

“A draw is a good result for them, so Arteta’s side are not going to approach it with all guns blazing – they will play with balance and, if they get the job done with a boring 0-0, they will be a step closer to winning the title.

“As for City, I am often wrong, but I am not as convinced by their recent form as some people are. Even so, I do think they will edge this.”
