Arsenal and Manchester City’s 2-2 draw on Sunday ended with chaotic scenes.
The titanic clash between these two title-chasing sides ended with fractious clashes.
Mikel Arteta saw his side reduced to ten men in the first half, after Leandro Trossard was dismissed for delaying a restart. Arsenal made a valiant defensive effort throughout the second half before their resistance was broken by John Stones’ 98th minute equaliser.
It had already been a heated encounter up until this point at the Etihad Stadium. At one stage, Pep Guardiola even kicked out at a chair after Riccardo Calafiori’s goal was allowed to stand.
However, the frustrations reached a new pitch after Stones’ late equaliser. Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, in particular, was guilty of letting his emotions get the better of him.
The Norwegian forward was spotted throwing a ball at Gabriel Magalhaes’ head, and Haaland even taunted Arteta on the pitch, telling the Spanish coach to “stay humble” after the final whistle.

Manchester City celebrations enrage Arsenal bench
New footage shared on X by Sky Sports shows angles of the Arsenal and Manchester City dugouts that weren’t initially broadcast.
This footage reveals what happened in the immediate aftermath of Stones’ goal.
One Manchester City staff member, physio Federico Genovesi, ran several yards onto the pitch in celebration of the strike.
Whilst Arteta did not react particularly strongly, many of his staff were incensed by the act and there was a tumultuous swarm of bodies around the touchline.
Referee Michael Oliver booked Genovesi for his encroachment onto the playing surface.
Why Arsenal got under Man City’s skin
Haaland’s comments to Arteta about humility now look somewhat foolish in light of this footage, as Manchester City’s staff responded so wildly to having salvaged a draw at home against the Gunners.
Plenty of other Manchester City stars had criticisms for Arteta’s side after this match. Stones described Arsenal as “dirty,” whilst Bernardo Silva also hit out at Arsenal’s tactics.
These responses show that the Cityzens were rattled by the North London club, and Arteta and his players must take that as a compliment, as it proves that the reigning Premier League champions take the threat they pose to their crown seriously.
