Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly starred for Arsenal as they beat Brighton and Hove Albion in the Carabao Cup.

The two teenagers have been best friends since they were kids. They joined the Gunners’ academy at about the same time and have been inseparable since.

The 2024/25 campaign was Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelly’s breakthrough season at Arsenal, and they were fantastic every time they played.

This term, the two players have had limited game time, but they showed Mikel Arteta exactly what they are capable of against Brighton on Wednesday.

Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri match Jack Wilshere’s Arsenal feat

Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri have been with the Arsenal first-team for such a long time that people forget how young they are.

That was the case on Wednesday night, as Arteta handed starts to 15-year-old Max Dowman and 17-year-old Andre Harriman-Annous against Brighton.

Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelly started too, but fans have been so used to seeing them that it felt like just another game.

The two Hale End graduates combined to score Arsenal’s opener against the Seagulls, which is a very rare feat.

The last time two teenagers combined for an Arsenal goal was in 2020 – Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka teamed up to score against Bournemouth.

However, the last time two English teenagers combined for an Arsenal goal was all the way back in 2010 – 15 years ago. Jack Wilshere assisted Henri Lansbury against Tottenham in that game.

Hale End has done it again!

Mikel Arteta hails Ethan Nwaneri after Arsenal beat Brighton

Nwaneri started in an attacking midfield role for Arsenal against Brighton, but things did not go his way early in the game.

The teenager is usually very clean with his passing and has great decision-making ability, but he made several wrong calls.

However, Nwaneri refused to hide and continued trying. Arteta loved that attitude.

The Arsenal manager said after the game, as per the club’s official website: “I think he took the goal really, really well.

“He had some actions, some of them, they weren’t that effective. But what I liked is that he kept trying and taking risks, and he didn’t change that behaviour and determination to make things happen, and at the end, he got rewarded with a brilliant goal.”
