Arsenal romped to a 5-0 win against Leeds United at the Emirates on Saturday evening.

After a difficult opening period in N5, the floodgates opened when Jurrien Timber headed home from a Declan Rice corner.

Bukayo Saka doubled the Gunners’ lead on the stroke of half-time, before a second from Timber and a brace from Viktor Gyokeres added to the scoreline after the break.

The result sees Mikel Arteta’s team top the Premier League table on goal difference, with a trip to Anfield awaiting next week.

Myles Lewis-Skelly was excellent for Arsenal vs Leeds

Max Dowman stole the headlines, making his senior debut for the Gunners against the Whites.

The teenager replaced Noni Madueke in the 64th minute, and he looked bright, winning a late penalty which was converted by Gyokeres.

However, another young star who entered the fray at the same time as Dowman was arguably more impressive.

Myles Lewis-Skelly responded to being dropped in each of the last two games by producing an exceptional cameo display.

Inverting into midfield effectively, the England international was calm and composed in possession, retaining the ball excellently in his 26 minutes on the pitch.

The 18-year-old also showed off some of his trademark elusiveness, breezing past a handful of Leeds players on a couple of occasions with ease.

Arteta will be delighted that one of the players left on the bench in the first two matches showed a reaction, and Lewis-Skelly has certainly put himself in a position to start at Anfield.

Myles Lewis-Skelly’s statistics vs Leeds

Lewis-Skelly’s statistics stood out in the areas you’d expect from him.

The Hale End graduate is outstanding in duels and won four out of five of his ground duels against Leeds.

However, what was more impressive is that, in something of a chaotic game, Lewis-Skelly completed all 21 of his passes.

The starlet is outstanding at retaining possession, even when under immense pressure, and he helped Arsenal do that late in the game as they looked to close it out and quieten the tempo.

He also did this by attempting to carry the ball past people and in between the lines, completing two dribbles.

An encouraging showing, which will give Arteta a headache at left-back when he picks his team for Anfield.
