Arsenal star Gabriel Martinelli has repaid Mikel Arteta’s faith in him with his first-half performance against Leicester City.

The Gunners welcomed Steve Cooper’s side to the Emirates on Saturday afternoon, and everyone viewed the Londoners as the favourites to win the game.

Arsenal received a bit of a boost before kickoff as well – news that Manchester City had dropped points against Newcastle United reached the Emirates and it was greeted with a loud roar.

Martinelli was one of the stars of the show in the first half.

Gabriel Martinelli finally breaks his Arsenal goal drought

Martinelli, on his day, is one of Arsenal’s best players.

The Brazilian was absolutely amazing in the 2022/23 season, when he scored 15 goals and provided six assists in all competitions.

Many people expected him to be even better in the following campaign, but injuries really disrupted his rhythm, and he ended the season with just eight goals and five assists.

Martinelli came under a fair bit of criticism for his start to the 2024/25 season. He just didn’t look like his usual self in the first few games.

However, the 23-year-old produced a much better performance against Manchester City, and that must have given him the confidence he needed.

Against Leicester at the Emirates, Martinelli opened the scoring for the Gunners with a very good finish following a cross from Jurrien Timber.

That must have been a huge relief for the attacker as it was his first goal for Arsenal in 208 days – he last found the net for the Gunners on the 4th of March, away against Sheffield United in a 6-0 win.

Martinelli could’ve scored a hat-trick in the first half

Martinelli started in his usual left-wing position against Leicester City at the Emirates, and he was heavily involved.

The Brazilian was at the end of a horrible challenge from Oliver Skipp early on, but that didn’t stop him. He found himself in a good position to score in the 15th minute but his shot from inside the box went over the bar.

Thankfully, Martinelli converted his next opportunity to give Arsenal the lead, but he got another chance just a few minutes later.

However, the Arsenal number 11’s shot was saved by Leicester City goalkeeper Mads Hermansen.

Martinelli picked up an assist for Leandro Trossard’s goal just before half-time. He should be really happy with his first-half display.
