Arsenal dominated in the opening half against Manchester United, but weren’t able to get to the interval without disappointing Gary Neville.
Neville thinks Arsenal will win the Premier League, an opinion shared by most, but so many games are left to be played.
Mikel Arteta’s challenge continued on matchday 23 as rivals Man United visited the Emirates, a contest that the Gunners started well.
Arteta was seeking revenge against Michael Carrick, and his team started the game with a hunger that reflected such; however, it only lasted for approximately 30 minutes.
Gary Neville was fuming at Arsenal’s game management against Man United
Arsenal dominated proceedings from the first whistle, with their efforts being rewarded in the 29th minute.
Lisandro Martinez scored an own goal to put the Gunners ahead, a blunder that would’ve felt like a double blow given Arsenal’s record when taking the lead this season.
How does this record make you feel? 🤩
Thank you Lisandro Martinez!
Though the numbers tell you that Arteta’s side are impossible to beat once they’ve taken the lead, the hosts uncharacteristically made life easy for the Red Devils after the own goal.
Less than 10 minutes after taking the lead, Man United equalised through Bryan Mbeumo, which was almost expected, as Arsenal’s play after scoring was remarkably sloppy.
On Sky Sports’ commentary, Neville couldn’t quite believe how poor Arsenal’s approach was after going 1-0 up.
“Arsenal’s management of the game since going a goal up has been terrible,” the pundit said.
“Mikel Arteta will be fuming. There have been a few mistakes already, and that’s the worst of the bunch.”
The goal came from a Martin Zubimendi error, as Arsenal were made to pay for their complacency.
Neville is right, Mikel Arteta will be fuming
There are few managers in world football who demand control as much as Arteta.
Therefore, Neville is spot on, the Arsenal manager will be furious that his players let their guard down so staggeringly after going ahead.
Will history be made at the Emirates? 👀
Insane stat!
Though Zubimendi will feel the most disappointed, he’s not the only one responsible, as several errors occurred after the lead was taken.
Arteta’s half-time team talk would’ve been as fierce as any other, as in a game that requires a win, his team fluffed their lines to invite pressure.
