Jamie Carragher has warned Mikel Arteta that he must now drop Viktor Gyokeres, with Gabriel Jesus now returning to form for Arsenal.

Jesus came off the bench to score his first Arsenal goal since January to wrap up what was an emphatic win for the Gunners.

Arsenal produced a statement win to defeat Aston Villa 4-1 at the Emirates Stadium, with Leandro Trossard, Martin Zubimendi and Gabriel Magalhaes also scoring.

However, one of the only negatives from the win was the performance of Gyokeres, who must now drop to the bench, according to Carragher.

Jamie Carragher tells Mikel Arteta to drop Viktor Gyokeres at Arsenal

Jamie Carragher believes that Gabriel Jesus is comfortably a better striker than Viktor Gyokeres and thinks the Brazilian should be starting ahead of him at Arsenal.

Speaking about the striker situation, Carragher told Sky Sports: “I think maybe the only negative of the night is that Gyokeres shouldn’t be starting for Arsenal when they’ve got players like this (Jesus).

“I think in a couple of games’ time when Jesus is a little bit more up to speed, he’s a better player than Gyokeres, that’s a fact.”

Fill in the blank: Viktor Gyokeres is now worth £___m following his start to life at Arsenal…

Once again, it was a tough evening for Gyokeres, who managed just five touches in the first half, before taking that tally to 16 in the second 45 minutes.

Gyokeres was really poor against Brighton, and the striker also struggled in a game in which his teammates ran riot.

In the 77th minute, Jesus came on to replace the Swede, and it took him very little time to find the back of the net.

Andrea Berta must quickly cut his losses with Viktor Gyokeres at Arsenal

Andrea Berta could soon face an awkward conversation at Arsenal as he might be forced to move on the striker he signed for £63 million in the summer.

The striker is struggling to adapt to life in the Premier League, and with Jesus, Mikel Merino and Kai Havertz all available, he’s well down the pecking order.

The North London club will most likely have to take a loss on the Swede, but another European club will surely take a punt on him.

Arteta could well look to even dip into the transfer market to source a replacement at some stage, raising question marks over Berta’s decision-making.
