Jamie Carragher believes that Manchester City could be quite pleased that Arsenal only managed to beat Burnley by one goal.

Kai Havertz turned in Bukayo Saka’s corner as Arsenal took another major step towards winning their first Premier League title in 22 years.

Who was your Man of the Match against Burnley?

Mikel Arteta’s team only just about got over the line against the Clarets, but that’s all they needed to do and are just one win away from securing the title.

If City defeats Bournemouth on Tuesday and takes it to the final game of the season, the title could still be decided on goal difference, and Pep Guardiola’s team will be holding on to that.

Jamie Carragher thinks Arsenal beating Burnley only 1-0 might please Man City

Jamie Carragher thinks that Arsenal defeating Burnley by just one goal could actually please Manchester City.

The nine-time Premier League champions would still need to do their job, but the Gunners face a tough away trip to Selhurst Park on the final day.

Carragher told Sky Sports: “I think in some ways, I think Manchester City would probably have taken that before the game. Of course, they would’ve loved Burnley to get a result. The point being is, what are the chances of Burnley being able to get a result?”

Currently, the goal difference is level between the two teams, with City and Arsenal both on plus 43, although Guardiola’s team have a game in hand.

“You know, you’re expecting probably four or five goals. So if you had said to Man City before the game, they’d be ahead on goal difference, and if we win our two games, you’ve got to hope Palace get a draw, you know, because the goal difference could have maybe been taken out of the equation tonight before I mentioned to City,” added the former Premier League defender.

How do you feel about the idea that Arsenal are going to be ‘bad champions’?

It hasn't been pretty at times, but do you give a hoot?

“We felt that, didn’t we, a few weeks ago when Man City went to Burnley, you felt like, oh, that was an opportunity missed there to try and really improve the goal difference. So, yeah, hopefully it’ll go to the last day.”

But for any of that to matter, City still need to go away to Bournemouth and win, which will be no easy feat, especially after playing 90 minutes in the FA Cup final on Saturday.
