Joe Cole is absolutely ‘stunned’ by what Mikel Arteta just did in Arsenal vs Newcastle United

Arsenal travelled to the North East to face Newcastle United on match day 10 of the Premier League season. 

St James’ Park has played host to some blockbuster clashes between the Gunners and the Magpies over the years, making Newcastle away a consistently testing fixture.

Match day 10 was no different for Mikel Arteta’s side, who went behind in the first half as Alexander Isak headed in a superb Anthony Gordon cross. 

The North Londoners are in desperate need of three points as the title race takes shape, putting a lot of emphasis on Arsenal’s ability to turn things around.

Joe Cole amazed at Mikel Arteta’s actions in Arsenal vs Newcastle United

The first half of the affair was a frustrating watch for Arsenal fans, who saw the visitors struggle to grab a hold of the game.

During the interval on TNT Sports’ coverage of the Premier League clash, pundit Joe Cole expressed one concern he had about Arteta. 

“They’ve not been at it. Trossard and Havertz haven’t got in the game, Martinelli has been ineffective. I’ll be stunned if there’s no changes at half time,” Cole said to Arsenal icon Martin Keown. 

Cole admitted that he would be left ‘stunned’ by Arteta not making any half time substitutions, which was something that the Gunners boss failed to do.

After a lacklustre opening 45 minutes, Cole and many others hoped to see the Spaniard make a change to liven up his side however, the manager evidently did not see the need to rotate.

Arsenal have not been at their best

Despite only being 10 games into the season, the title race is already taking shape, with Manchester City and Liverpool showing impressive form.

Arsenal are yet to reach such level, with their previous two results portraying that, losing against Bournemouth and then squandering two leads against Liverpool.

Three points were a must for Arteta’s side against Newcastle, with the prospect of falling any further behind the top two being an early nightmare for the Gunners.
