Keith Andrews says Gabriel Magalhaes ‘definitely’ should have been sent off

Keith Andrews is adamant that the referee made a mistake by not showing Gabriel Magalhaes a second yellow card during Brentford versus Arsenal.

The Brazilian was shown an early yellow card, and then, during the closing stages of the match, he was very fortunate not to have been booked again.

In the 83rd minute, Gabriel took a wild swing at the ball, which he missed and ended up taking out Brentford attacker Dango Ouattara.

When asked whether Gabriel should have been shown a second yellow card, Andrews told TNT Sports: “I think it was a definite yellow.”

Name Arsenal’s most disappointing player vs Brentford but you can’t say Eberechi Eze

Gabriel can count himself very fortunate not to have seen red against the Bees on what was a tricky evening for the Brazilian.

The defender was without his partner William Saliba, who missed the game through illness, and was replaced by Cristhian Mosquera.

By his standards, he was quite poor, winning 11 of his 16 duels, committing two fouls and losing possession on five occasions against the Bees.

Martin Keown agrees Gabriel Magalhaes should have been sent off

Martin Keown was in agreement that Gabriel should have been sent off for a second bookable offence.

The Arsenal legend was also frustrated with how John Brooks officiated the game, giving lots of fouls outside the box and very little inside the penalty area.

“I’m not even going to argue with that! I don’t know how you felt, but do you feel like with this ref, he was like ‘do whatever you want inside the box’, but outside the box, he was giving a lot of fouls,” Keown told TNT Sports.
