PSG are champions of Europe for the second season in a row and Luis Enrique believes his team fully deserve everything they’ve got.

Enrique watched on as Gabriel Magalhaes missed the crucial penalty with the scores at 4-3 to ensure PSG kept hold of the famous trophy for at least another year.

The Spaniard knew he was in for a tough night against his old friend Mikel Arteta and in the end, it was very much the difficult match he expected.

For Enrique, it was pure excitement and delight at the win.

In the opposite dugout, Mikel Arteta now faces the task of picking up his players.

However, while Enrique believed his team deserved to come out on top, he praised Arteta’s team for their own performance.

“I’m mixed. Excitement, fatigue. Everything but this is the best moment of the season. We are still champions, two in a row, it’s amazing,” Enrique said on the pitch afterwards.

“We deserved that. Our supporters, during the whole season. We deserve to be in the final.

“It was very tough and difficult. Congratulations to Arsenal, it was very tough. They played great. It’s normal. They try to take the match into phases they are strong. We tried to control the ball and press. We have won the title.”

Arsenal now know that they need to regroup and rather than wallow in the pity of losing a final, take the success of being league champions into next season instead.

For now, a number of Arsenal players will head away for the World Cup before taking a well-earned rest.

After that, it’s about getting back on the horse. Arsenal have proven they can do it in Europe, they now need to just get over that final hurdle.
