Arsenal and PSG played out the 90 minutes of the Champions League final with nothing to separate them but the Gunners can count themselves lucky to still have had 11 men at the time.

Arsenal were well in the game and led thanks to Kai Havertz’s superb early finish.

However, defender Cristhian Mosquera committed a foul midway through the second half and PSG subsequently tucked in the penalty to equalise via Ousmane Dembele.

Still, despite the leveller, some felt Mosquera could have seen red having already been on a yellow.

Luckily for everyone wondering what the official verdict is, Arsenal Insider have spoken exclusively for former referee Mark Clattenburg.

You’re the ref: How do you deal with Cristhian Mosquera vs PSG?

Penalty? no penalty? Red card? No red card?

Mark Clattenburg defends Cristhian Mosquera yellow decision v PSG

At the time of the foul, every Arsenal fan held their breath as the VAR took a long look at the decision both in terms of if it was indeed a penalty and if Mosquera deserved a second yellow.

However, speaking to Arsenal Insider, Mark Clattenburg suggested that the right call was reached in the end.

“The penalty kick awarded to PSG for a challenge by Christhian Mosquera on Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was a correct one by referee Daniel Siebert,” Clattenburg told Arsenal Insider.

“Any contact on the ball by the defender was after catching the leg of the attacker from behind so the referee was right to award.

“Some will argue that Mosquera should have been issued a 2nd yellow card but not every foul is a yellow card and as the challenge was a careless one, the law states that a yellow card should not be issued for a careless foul.”

With that opinion in the bank from Clattenburg, it’s safe to say we can move on from this one.

Still, it’s another talking point involving the referee and VAR in a big game and ultimately, this one landed on the right side of Arsenal.
