Arsenal’s win over Sporting CP was not pretty, but it was exactly what they needed at this stage of the season.
The Gunners showed control, discipline and patience to grind out a result away from home at a ground where the Portuguese giants had won 17 games in a row. They even beat PSG there earlier this season.
At a time when everyone should be praising Arsenal for controlling large parts of the game, keeping a clean sheet and scoring a winner, Jamie Carragher decided to question whether Arsenal can win the Premier League playing like that.
Micah Richards, however, had the perfect response.

Micah Richards shuts down Jamie Carragher’s Arsenal claim
Arsenal were not at their free-flowing best against Sporting CP on Tuesday night, but they got the job done with a 1-0 win.
The two substitutes, Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz, combined in the 91st minute of the game, and the German calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net.
While analysing the game with Richards, where the former Manchester City man was trying to explain the positives from Arsenal’s win, Carragher was just not having it.
The Liverpool icon suggested that the Gunners’ style of play is not convincing and may not be good enough to win the Premier League title.

“They have won the game, no problem. Do you think if they played like that every game between now and the end of the season, they will win the league?” Carragher questioned on CBS Sports.
Richards, who is a lot more neutral with his analysis as a pundit, responded immediately and made a very important point.
He said: “But they have been playing like that in the season and they have been getting over the line. That has been the point!”
Carragher had no logical response to Richards shutting him down, so he just replied: “Well, we’ll see.”

Arsenal fans react to Jamie Carragher’s comment
Arsenal fans, unsurprisingly, are not happy with Carragher’s comments and can clearly see that he is biased.
It’s just a shame that Thierry Henry sits next to him and says nothing when he constantly tries to spin a negative narrative about the Gunners.
After watching his latest comments, Arsenal fans have had their say.
One tweeted: “Jamie is just like all other rival fans who want Arsenal to have a bad result and have something to moan about.”
Another wrote: “Micah Richards is doing God’s work and calling out Carragher for his nonsense.”
“Love Micah calling out Jamie’s double standards,” said another.
