Mikel Arteta has shared an injury update on Arsenal defender William Saliba ahead of the Premier League clash against Brentford.
The Gunners return to action in the Premier League just three days after drawing 1-1 with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
One of the main talking points from the game was that Saliba missed out due to injury, picking up a knock in training.
Saliba liked what he saw from Piero Hincapie, his replacement, as the Frenchman still travelled to Stamford Bridge to support his teammates.
Now that Brentford are set to arrive in N5, Arsenal fans are wondering whether Saliba will be fit to return to face the Bees, something Arteta has shared an update on.
The Arsenal manager confirmed in his pre-match press conference that he’s still unsure about whether the centre-back will be available.
“I am not going to be able to help you much today, as we have another training session. He had a little niggle, but I think it’s going to be a matter of days.”
Mikel Arteta has other defensive questions to answer against Brentford
It’s not only in central defence that Arteta has a decision to make, but in the full-back areas too.
Who should start in place of Gabriel Magalhaes – Cristhian Mosquera or Piero Hincapie?
With the fixtures coming thick and fast and a tough trip to Villa Park fast approaching, it’s possible that the boss could rotate against Brentford.
Arsenal have the squad depth to do so, which could tempt the Spaniard to hand Jurrien Timber a rare rest, while Riccardo Calafiori could benefit from starting on the bench.
The Italian is one booking away from suspension after picking up his fourth yellow card of the season against Chelsea, running the risk of being suspended for the Aston Villa clash.
