Arsenal have a tough game coming up against Sunderland at the Emirates.

The Gunners have the chance to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table to nine points, with Manchester City due to face Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

There is every chance that Pep Guardiola’s side will drop points against the defending champions, so a win against Sunderland for Arsenal is an absolute necessity.

Paul Merson is confident about what will happen.

Paul Merson predicts Arsenal vs Sunderland result

The upcoming weekend could be the biggest of Arsenal’s season so far.

The Gunners have had opportunities to extend their lead over Manchester City on a few occasions in recent weeks, but they have slipped up.

This time, Mikel Arteta’s men will play first, and they have the chance to put a lot of pressure on their title rivals by going nine points clear at the top.

Merson is absolutely convinced that Arsenal will beat Sunderland, and he also feels that Manchester City will drop points at Anfield.

So, the former Gunner has claimed that the Premier League title race will be over on Sunday.

He wrote on Sportskeeda: “I think the title will be wrapped up this weekend. I can’t see Arsenal dropping points in this game. If Arsenal win, they will be nine points clear at the top, and then Manchester City go to Anfield, which means it will all be over on Sunday!

“Sunderland were great in the win over Burnley last time out. But I expect a comfortable win for Arsenal in this game.”

Merson’s prediction: Arsenal 2-0 Sunderland.

Arsenal already know what Sunderland are going to do against them

Sunderland have to be taken seriously after the kind of season they have had.

It’s not often that you see a newly promoted team in a position where they are fighting for European qualification in February. That’s how good a job Regis Le Bris has done.

Arsenal were held to a 2-2 draw against the Black Cats in the reverse fixture in November, and in that game, Sunderland sat back and defended deep all game.

The hosts had just 35 per cent possession and conceded 17 shots. They only had two shots on target themselves and scored with both.

That will be their game plan at the Emirates again, and Arsenal should prepare themselves for a frustrating game.
