Arsenal have the opportunity to win their first trophy of the season in the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City.

The Gunners have been outstanding in the competition so far. They beat Chelsea home and away in the semi-finals, and they are the slight favourites to beat Pep Guardiola’s side as well.

Paul Merson has already predicted an Arsenal win in the Carabao Cup final, and he has now made another long-term prediction.

Call it now, will Mikel Arteta’s record be intact after the Carabao Cup final?

Paul Merson says Arsenal will dominate football for years if they win the Carabao Cup

Arsenal have been brilliant for nearly four years now.

The Gunners competed for the Premier League title in each of the last three seasons but fell just short in the end on every occasion.

Many feel Arsenal will finally get over the line this time, but there are still some concerns about the mental block of falling short previously.

While speaking to Bukayo Saka, Merson spoke about the importance of getting that first trophy over the line.

He believes that if Arsenal get the Carabao Cup in the bag on Sunday, they will then go on to dominate the game for years to come.

Merson said on Sky Sports: “That’s the thing, it’s just getting over the line, that first one, isn’t it? I mean, it is just getting (over the line).

“And as soon as you do that, I could see this team, as a squad, dominating football for a long, long time. The team you got together, from the outside, and you got the fans as well.”

Arsenal’s key players are at the perfect age for Mikel Arteta to build a dynasty

One of the biggest positives for Arsenal is the age of many of their key players.

None of them are anywhere near the end of their careers, while most of them are nowhere near their prime yet, which is incredible.

Saka is still only 24, as are Noni Madueke, Gabriel Martinelli, William Saliba, Jurrien Timber and Piero Hincapie. Martin Odegaard, Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi are still 27, while Gabriel Magalhaes is 28.

Furthermore, Cristhian Mosquera and Riccardo Calafiori are 21 and 23 respectively, while the likes of Ethan Nwaneri, Myles Lewis-Skelly and Max Dowman are still just teenagers.

As Merson said, if Arsenal do get over the line, Mikel Arteta has the squad capable of dominating the game for many, many years. That is scary, but not for the Gunners.
