Piero Hincapie and Cristhian Mosquera started for Arsenal against Brighton and Hove Albion in the Carabao Cup.

Mikel Arteta surprised everyone by making 10 changes to his starting line-up from the win over Crystal Palace at the weekend.

The fact that Max Dowman and Andre Harriman-Annous started made all the headlines, but what was exciting at the other end of the pitch was seeing Hincapie and Mosquera paired together for the first time.

Both players had a solid game against the Seagulls and helped Arsenal keep a clean sheet.

Piero Hincapie hails Cristhian Mosquera after Arsenal beat Brighton

Arsenal signed both Piero Hincapie and Cristhian Mosquera in the summer transfer window.

The Ecuador international was brought in on a season-long loan deal from Bayer Leverkusen, and the expectation is that the move will be made permanent next year.

On the other hand, Mosquera was signed from Valencia for just £13 million, which is proving to be the biggest bargain of the summer transfer window.

The two defenders started together in place of William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes, and they were both brilliant for large parts of the game.

Keeping Fabian Hurzeler’s Brighton side quiet is never easy, but they managed to do that and helped Arsenal keep a record-breaking clean sheet.

After the game, Hincapie and Mosquera praised each other on Instagram.

The latter commented two heart-eyes emojis under his new centre-back partner’s post. In return, Hincapie hailed Mosquera by saying: “Machine!”

Cristhian Mosquera has been one of Arsenal’s best signings

When Arsenal signed Mosquera in the summer, nobody really cared too much.

A 21-year-old centre-back from a team that finished 12th in La Liga last season isn’t usually an exciting signing, but Mosquera has impressed everyone since he arrived.

In his first-ever season in the Premier League, the Spaniard has been asked to fill in for Saliba, who is arguably the best centre-back on the planet. That is not easy at all.

However, Mosquera has been incredible at the back, so much so that Arsenal haven’t even missed Saliba when he has been unavailable.

The former Valencia man may not have made a lot of noise when he joined in the summer, but it has to be said now that he has been one of Arsenal’s best signings.
