Steven Gerrard does not think Arsenal’s Champions League final will affect Mikel Arteta’s team and is backing them to quickly bounce back.

The Gunners suffered the heartbreak of losing on penalties in the Champions League final as Eberechi Eze and Gabriel Magalhaes both missed from 12 yards.

Arsenal played a very impressive game for the majority of the final in Budapest and are very unfortunate not to have beaten PSG.

Following the defeat in the Champions League final, Gerrard has been speaking about how he expects this Arsenal team to react to losing to PSG.

Steven Gerrard backs Arsenal to bounce back

Steven Gerrard has fully backed Arsenal to bounce back from the crushing blow of losing to PSG in the Champions League final.

The former Liverpool captain thinks that the Arsenal squad deserves huge credit for everything they have done this season and thinks they will be back.

Speaking to TNT Sports, Gerrard said: “Take nothing away from Arsenal, they made a fantastic out of it, it’s very cruel on them to lose a game of football in general is tough, but to lose it on a penalty shootout is even more cruel. So, you’ve got to feel for Arsenal.”

Asked whether this defeat would be difficult to bounce back from, he added: “No, I don’t, because I look across the Arsenal team, I look across the squad, I don’t see much ego, I see a lot of a group of players who have been fantastic for a period of time.

Tell us we’re wrong…Mikel Arteta just cost Arsenal the Champions League by sending Gabriel up to take a penalty

“I see a young, hungry manager who has done incredible things with this group of players. You can’t let this setback take everything away from becoming Premier League champions.

“I tried to do that for 15 years, with good teams and good players for Liverpool, and it’s immensely tough.

“Martin (Keown) won it, Jack (Wilshere) will tell you how tough it is to win that league, and they did it ten days ago, so they deserve a lot of plaudits and credit tonight.

“But if you are going to lose a final, you do it that way, running into the ground for each other and give it everything you’ve possibly got, and they lost it on penalties.”

Losing on penalties is such a cruel way for Arsenal to finish such an impressive Champions League campaign, but next season, Mikel Arteta’s team will be back.
