Thierry Henry has been so impressed by Viktor Gyokeres’ recent performances for Arsenal, which is down to his teammates now understanding him as a player.
Gyokeres was outstanding during the Gunners’ win over Atletico Madrid, and Arsenal Insider gave his performance an 8/10.
👀 Do we all owe Viktor Gyokeres an apology after his performances against Fulham and Atletico?
👏 Three goals in three games and three top performances!
The striker did not get on the scoresheet, but his work off the ball and his ability to bring others into play made him so effective on the night.
Following the North London club’s qualification for the Champions League final, Henry has been discussing the importance of the Swede.
Thierry Henry thinks Viktor Gyokeres now has a strong connection with his Arsenal teammates
Thierry Henry thinks Viktor Gyokeres has finally forged a strong connection with his Arsenal teammates, as shown against Fulham and Atletico Madrid.
The striker netted a brace against Fulham at the weekend to take his tally for the season to 21, and against Atletico, his all-around play was unbelievable.
The Arsenal legend claims that his teammates are finally starting to realise how to get the best from him, and he has been so impressed by his recent displays.
Henry told CBS Sports: “Yes, we all know what Declan Rice can do, and yes, he was man of the match, but what Gyokeres is doing at the moment.
“The connection that they have with him, as I mentioned before, now you can see what he’s good at and not what he’s not good at.”
Who was your Man of the Match vs Atletico Madrid?
Gyokeres played a key role in Bukayo Saka’s goal, as the striker made a great run and, instead of rushing, he produced a well-flighted cross which helped force the goal.
“You see Saliba on the ball. Look at the little run. That’s an old school run from a nine. Make a run, see if you can go to the goal, and if that defender didn’t touch the ball, it would have been a one-v-one,” added Henry.
“But he’s aware there. He’s not greedy. He’s like, ‘Okay, I’m not going to force it’. Then he crossed it. We all know what’s going to happen after.
“But if that connection didn’t happen with him and Saliba, obviously, that brought the goal of Bukayo Saka, that never happens.”
