Arsenal star Viktor Gyokeres’ World Cup dreams are over as Sweden were knocked out by France in the round of 32.

The Gunners’ number 14 went into the competition after winning the Premier League title as the club’s top scorer. He also played a huge part in helping his country qualify.

Unfortunately for the Swedes, they were drawn against arguably the best team at the World Cup in their first knockout game.

Kylian Mbappe was once again the star of the show, and he put Gyokeres in an uncomfortable position during the game.

France were always the favourites to beat Sweden.

Les Bleus have been better than everyone else at the World Cup so far, and they showed their class again on Tuesday night.

Mbappe scored twice, and one of his goals was brilliantly worked.

The Real Madrid star picked up the ball on the left side, found himself in a one-on-one situation against Viktor Gyokeres of all people, got past him with ease and found the net with a lovely strike.

Thierry Henry was amazed by the ball, but he couldn’t understand why the Arsenal striker was the one defending instead of an actual defender.

He said on Fox Sports 1 after the game: “What you saw on the goal is three intelligent players understanding what is what.

“The ball was quick, a one vs one for Mbappe and who came to defend – Gyokeres. How is he going to stop Mbappe one vs one?”

Viktor Gyokeres can be proud of his achievements despite Sweden getting knocked out

Sweden wouldn’t have been at the World Cup if it weren’t for Gyokeres.

The Arsenal star scored a hat-trick in the playoff semi-final and a late winner in the final to help them qualify. He has had an impressive tournament too.

Gyokeres scored a goal, provided two assists and created nine chances in his four games, which is a very decent return.

Now, the striker will get some time off to rest and recharge before joining up with Arsenal for pre-season.
