Gabriel Magalhaes was one of two Arsenal players to help Brazil get past Japan and into the last 16 of the World Cup.

Gabriel provided a brilliant cross for Casemiro to head home the equaliser and from then on there was only ever going to be one winner.

That winner came courtesy of Arsenal teammate Gabriel Martinelli, who finished smartly from Bruno Guimaraes’ pass in injury time.

For Brazil, the partnership of Gabriel and Marquinhos at the back will be crucial to them having any success in this tournament.

And for the Brazilian media, it appears Gabriel is doing just fine for now.

Brazil’s media praise Gabriel Magalhaes as they beat Japan at the World Cup

All us Arsenal fans know how good and important Gabriel is and he is showing in this World Cup he is equally as important for Brazil.

The assist was a brilliant moment of class from the centre-half but as we all know, he’ll be judged more on his defensive performances.

Indeed, the Brazilian media seemed impressed, as they rated Gabriel’s efforts v Japan.

Globo Esport praised Gabriel, giving him a 6.5 out of 10 rating.

“Another who was important in the construction of Brazil in the face of a Japan that scored so low. He ran far back in the Japanese goal, but compensated with a perfect cross for Casemiro to equalise.”

While another publication, Trivela, also praised Gabriel, giving him a 7.5 rating.

“He couldn’t block Sano’s shot on Japan’s first goal, but he had a solid game overall. Responsible for the direct cross for Casemiro to equalise the score. He tried to repeat the dose with Rayan.”

With Brazil now into the final 16 and in the same side of the draw as England, there is a big chance that Arsenal fans get to see a number of their players go head to head soon.

For Gabriel, it will be the biggest battle of all when he comes to face Harry Kane.
