What Jorginho was constantly doing during Bolton win that really helped Jack Porter on Arsenal debut

Jorginho was named as Arsenal’s captain when the Gunners faced Bolton Wanderers in the EFL Cup.

Mikel Arteta made plenty of changes to his side. He started four teenagers – Ethan Nwaneri, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Josh Nichols and 16-year-old Jack Porter.

All four players impressed, but the senior stars in the squad deserve a lot of credit too for giving the kids the confidence and support they needed to thrive.

Jorginho played a big part in making young Porter’s job easier against Bolton on Wednesday night.

How Jorginho helped Jack Porter during Arsenal vs Bolton

Porter became the youngest-ever goalkeeper to play for Arsenal when he was handed a start against Bolton at the Emirates.

The 16-year-old is a fine talent and has been training with the first team since pre-season. However, nobody would’ve expected him to get an opportunity with the senior side this term.

David Raya and Tommy Setford are both injured, while Neto is cup-tied. That opened the door for Porter and he did fairly well in front of 60,000 people.

In attendance at the Emirates was Arsenal Insider’s own Lucas Arnold, who was keeping an eye on Porter and all the other young players Arteta gave an opportunity to.

The goalkeeper’s performance caught his eye, but he was more impressed with how Jorginho gave Porter all the support he needed throughout the game.

“Jorginho was really trying his best to help Porter through, making a special effort with the youngster,” Lucas says.

“The Italian, along with the likes of Riccardo Calafiori and Gabriel Magalhaes, immediately went over to Porter when he made a mistake with the ball at his feet after being closed down by a Bolton attacker.

“Jorginho was constantly speaking to the 16-year-old and offering him plenty of encouragement it seemed, and then proceeded to give him instructions on what to do with goal kicks – either go long or play out from the back. Invaluable advice on his debut.

“A really classy moment from a player who is a credit to the club, always ready when called upon and has the perfect attitude when he’s not selected.”

How Jorginho helps Arsenal players when he’s not starting

Jorginho is almost like a player-manager to many of his teammates.

Yes, Arteta is the boss and he calls the shots along with his coaching staff, but the Italian also plays a key role to help other players in the side.

For example, against Manchester City, Jorginho was spotted on the touchline constantly shouting instructions to his teammates to help them get over the line.

The former Chelsea man is often seen doing that while he is warming up on the side of the pitch, and that must be really helpful to the players, especially the younger ones.

Jorginho still has a year or two left at the top level, but don’t be surprised to see him become a manager somewhere after he hangs up his boots.
