What Viktor Gyokeres just did to write his name into Arsenal history vs Nottingham Forest

It hasn’t taken Viktor Gyokeres long to write his name into Arsenal’s history books.

The Swede signed for Arsenal in the summer to bring goals to Mikel Arteta’s side, and that’s exactly what he’s doing.

During Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest, Gyokeres scored his third Premier League goal in only his fourth appearance, finishing an Eberechi Eze cross.

It was a goal that fans loved as Eze recorded his first goal contribution in red and white, while amid a lot of unfair criticism, Gyokeres scored again.

Viktor Gyokeres wrote his name into Arsenal history with Nottingham Forest goal

The striker’s critics would’ve gone quiet after he found the net again in the Premier League.

This goal was particularly special, not only because it was assisted by Eze, but because it wrote the forward into Arsenal’s history

Gyokeres became only the third Arsenal player to score in his first two Premier League home games, being the first to achieve the feat in almost eight years.

You’d have to rewind to December 2017 to revise the last time an Arsenal player scored in their first two Premier League games at the Emirates, as Alexandre Lacazette did it.

The player to get the ball rolling in the history books was Marouane Chamakh, who became the first to do it in 2010.

Gyokeres has now joined the exclusive club, with his sights surely set on extending his record at the Emirates when Manchester City visit on matchday five.

Gyokeres’ stats vs Nottingham Forest

Given the discourse around Gyokeres’ suitability for this Arsenal team, the Swede has started his Premier League career very well.

Many strikers would dream of scoring three in their first four games, and, given that the forward is yet to properly adapt to his new team, the signs are very encouraging.

Against Forest, the striker was certainly more involved in the game than he was at Anfield, but still, he was rather quiet until the moment fell for him to score, which he did.

As seen from his match statistics, Gyokeres only completed seven passes, but what he did in other areas showed the no-nonsense type of player Arteta added to his squad in the summer.

The 27-year-old won all of his duels and fired four shots on goal, being a constant and bullish threat in the final third.

It was a memorable outing for the Gunners’ summer signing, whose goal meant more than just improving his tally.
