Arsenal’s meeting with Aston Villa is a must-win when it comes to their Premier League title hopes.

After suffering the disappointment of losing against Man United, Mikel Arteta’s side returned to league action with a much-need three points in the North London Derby.

The Gunners will no doubt be hoping to continue that winning run against Aston Villa, but the Villians will present a tough task taking into account Unai Emery’s unbeaten record at the Emirates.

Arsenal will have to be on top form to overcome the Villians but they will have to do so without one of their key stars – after it was confirmed William Saliba would miss the Aston Villa game.

William Saliba not in Arsenal squad to face Aston Villa

Arsenal fans feared that the defender would miss the Villa clash after Saliba was absent from training.

Those fears have since come true following news that the Frenchman would not be part of the squad to face the Villians.

With that being said, Saliba’s unavailability is reportedly down to a hamstring issue, having suffered tightness against Spurs.

Arsenal fans will no doubt be glad the injury is not serious, but many will recognise the impact Saliba’s absence will have on the Gunners XI.

Arsenal team news vs Aston Villa

Saliba’s injury leaves a gaping hole in the Arsenal backline, one that Arteta believes Jurrien Timber can fill.

With the likes of Jakob Kiwior and Kieran Tierney in his ranks, the Arsenal boss has seemingly opted for Timber to act as a makeshift centre-back, with Thomas Partey filling in as a right-back.

The likes of Ollie Watkins will be licking their lips following the Saliba news – pair that with Partey’s poor record at full-back – means the Arsenal backline could be in for a tough evening at the Emirates Stadium.
