Arsenal were embarrassed once more by Newcastle United as the Magpies booked their place in the Carabao Cup final.

The Gunners’ wait for success in the Carabao Cup goes on, with Mikel Arteta’s side shown up over two legs by Newcastle.

Arsenal lost 4-0 on aggregate, suffering 2-0 defeats home and away in what was a dismal tie for the North Londoners.

It’s another denial of silverware for Arteta, who will be deeply disappointed by how his squad performed in the North East.

On a forgettable night for Arsenal, here’s how the players rated.

Arsenal player ratings vs Newcastle

David Raya – 4

Newcastle tested Raya far more than they should’ve been allowed to. The Spaniard had a nightmare, handing Newcastle their second of the night and their fourth on aggregate.

Myles Lewis-Skelly – 6

Lewis-Skelly was one of the standout performers on a terrible outing for Arsenal, the teenager was composed and strong in the challenge on a testing evening for the back line.

William Saliba – 2

Arguably Saliba’s worst performance in an Arsenal shirt. The Frenchman rarely puts a foot out of line but the centre-back couldn’t get anything right against Newcastle, and particularly Isak.

Gabriel Magalhaes – 2.5

Like Saliba, Gabriel looked rattled by Isak, whose movement and pace got the better of the usually trusted pair.

Jurrien Timber – 5

Like the majority of Arsenal’s back four, Timber had a difficult evening against the Magpies, it was certainly one of the Dutchman’s less admirable displays.

Thomas Partey – 3

Before the game, the Gunners knew of the threat of Newcastle’s midfield yet Partey entered the game looking unprepared for battle.

Declan Rice – 6

Rice was one of Arsenal’s better performers, the midfielder played rather high to attempt to make things happen on a night that saw very little go right for the Gunners.

Martin Odegaard – 3

When the score was 0-0, Odegaard had a fantastic chance to score and failed to hit the target, with Newcastle scoring moments later. The captain did very little to influence the game.

Gabriel Martinelli – 4

Martinelli concerningly went off injured in the first half but before his withdrawal, the Brazilian made little impact on the right and was seen to drift into more central areas.

Leandro Trossard – 6

On the left, Trossard was a rare spark of threat when the ball came his way, the Belgian was frequently trying to make things happen going forward.

Kai Havertz – 4

Like the majority of the Arsenal team, Havertz had little to no impact on proceedings.

Substitutes

Ethan Nwaneri – 6

As soon as Nwaneri came on, it was clear that he was a more threatening option on the right than Martinelli. The Hale End graduate got into some good positions and tried to influence going forward.

Raheem Sterling – 4

Saw a lot of the ball after coming on but was locked down by Newcastle.

Riccardo Calafiori – N/A
