£100k-a-week Arsenal player isn’t good enough, Mikel Arteta has to look for a replacement

Mikel Arteta will have to seek an upgrade on Reiss Nelson if Arsenal are to achieve all of their lofty ambitions this season.

That’s off the back of Arsenal’s 2-1 loss against Lens in France last night.

And whilst it might seem harsh to come away from that game with criticism for Nelson, he had a lively cameo, Arsenal are suffering on the wings.

Arteta’s side started in lively fashion, but that came to an abrupt end when Bukayo Saka went off injured.

Instead of looking to his winger on the bench, Nelson, Arteta instead decided to introduce Fabio Vieira.

The Arsenal boss still clearly has reservations about Nelson’s ability to affect games from the start or early on.

Although Nelson was handed a start against Brentford, that was seemingly as a result of EFL Cup not being a priority for Arteta.

The Spaniard doesn’t trust Nelson fully, and therefore he has to replace the £100k-a-week winger.

A wage that doesn’t befit a super sub, regardless of how much Arsenal fans love their Hale End graduate.

Pedro Neto would be a huge upgrade on Nelson for Arteta and Arsenal

It’s well documented just how interested Arsenal have been in Wolves’ Pedro Neto over the last year or so.

The 23-year-old has been in scintillating form this season and surely will take the next step to an elite side soon.

And that needs to be to the Emirates.

No Arsenal fans will enjoy watching Reiss Nelson leave, he embodies so many good things about the club, but he does lack the star quality for this team.

Arteta needs to be able to trust all of his Arsenal players in big moments, and he seems to have some doubts over Nelson.

There’s no doubt that Nelson is a Premier League player, he’ll do well elsewhere, but his Arsenal career may have already peaked with that late winner at Bournemouth.
