Jorginho has identified one pitfall that could prove to be this Arsenal team’s undoing.
There is a huge amount of talent in this Arsenal squad. Veteran midfielder Jorginho, with all of his previous experience in the game, is well-placed to recognise this.
Mikel Arteta’s first team squad is generally pretty young. Talismanic figures such as Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, and William Saliba, for instance, are all under the age of 25. That is the spine of an excellent team who could all end up playing together for years to come.
The north London club mounted a strong title challenge last season, and will be aiming to get their hands on the trophy this season. Some silverware, at least, will be deemed a minimum requirement.
Jorginho is excited about what this group can achieve. The 31-year-old, who has a Champions League winners’ medal amongst numerous other honours to his name, believes that the sky is the limit for many of his teammates.
However, the £110,000-a-week star also has some words of warning for this Arsenal team. Speaking to the club’s official website, Jorginho recently said, “as long as we don’t put our individual ego in front of the team, this group can be special. I see it can be that way, and I hope the egos never take over. I hope the team always comes first, because then the enjoyment is way bigger than just being an individual.”

A team effort to keep the team on-track
Arteta will see it as his responsibility to keep egos in check. This could take the form of moving certain players on, exercising his powers as a disciplinarian, and vetting potential signings to ensure that they have the right mentality.
Experienced figures such as Jorginho, Mohamed Elneny, and Thomas Partey also have a role to play in terms of making sure that their younger teammates keep their feet on the ground and their focus on what really matters.
All that being said, there shouldn’t be a great deal of concerns about this Arsenal team letting their egos run away with them. They seem to be an extremely professional, humble, and hard-working group.
