Arsenal midfielder Jorginho is still determined to improve as a player.

Despite being one of the veteran figures in this Arsenal squad, Jorginho is still keen to take his game to the next level.

Since arriving at the Emirates Stadium from Chelsea in a deal worth £12 million in January, Jorginho has established himself as a useful squad player for Arsenal.

The 31-year-old is also an asset to Mikel Arteta off the pitch, as he has taken responsibility for guiding some of the Gunners’ younger players.

Jorginho isn’t a part of the club’s long-term future, but he will still be needed to play a vital role this season. He has already made some important contributions, including impressing as a starter in the recent win over Manchester City.

However, against his former club at Stamford Bridge, last time out, some of his flaws as a player were exposed. Against a quick and energetic Chelsea midfield unit, the £110,000-a-week Arsenal man struggled to cope.

Jorginho still challenging himself

The 48-cap Italy international has now admitted that he needs to raise his game. As quoted by Hayters TV, speaking ahead of the north London club’s Champions League clash with Sevilla, Jorginho said, “I’m quite harsh on myself so I always think I can do better, everyone can do better and that’s what I always try to do.”

“I can improve to help my teammates and make things easier for them, try and make them look good, I think there is always margin to improve and that’s my job. That’s what I try to do.”

Arteta will be delighted to hear his player expressing this attitude. The Spanish coach will want Jorginho’s disciplined commitment to improving to proliferate throughout his squad.

Jorginho may well be in for another start against Sevilla, especially if Thomas Partey is not yet deemed fully fit. The former Chelsea man will want to put in a much-improved display against the Spanish club and remind everyone what he can do it.

At his best, Jorginho is a wonderful passer of the ball and able to dictate the pace of a match. Arteta will be looking to him to help Arsenal establish control of the game.
