22-year-old Arsenal player is still going under the radar, fans don’t realise just how good he is

After all of the applause for his performance against Sevilla, calling Gabriel Martinelli slightly underrated at Arsenal may seem odd.

Martinelli is recognised as an hugely exciting talent for Arsenal, and is evidently one of the first names on the team sheet for Mikel Arteta.

Having signed for £6m back in 2019, Arsenal look to have grabbed one of the bargains of the century.

And despite all this praise, Martinelli still isn’t recognised quite as highly as he should be by Arsenal fans.

Right now most fans would highlight the likes of Bukayo Saka, William Saliba and Martin Odegaard as the most important players at the club.

All excellent talents who deserve to be held in that bracket – but Martinelli deserves to be there too.

The Brazilian winger has a truly unique style, there isn’t another player like him in the Premier League.

And although his winner was heavily deflected against Manchester City last month, his energy and quality decided a game at the top, top level.

It certainly shouldn’t be a surprise that Martinelli broke a eight year record with his dribbling in the Champions League yesterday, he’s that echelon of player.

Of course, the challenge for the Brazilian will now be to continue to prove his talent to the world. 

Having made his international debut last year, Martinelli now has seven caps for his country.

And although he’s yet to win a starting role, that should now be just round the corner.

There was a lot of emphasis on Arsenal returning to the Champions League this season, an occasion that proved quite emotional for a lot of fans.

The signal that some difficult days at the club had now passed.

And the Champions League is now proving the perfect stage for Martinelli to prove how he’s still being slightly underrated at Arsenal, despite how highly he’s held.

Following the win over Sevilla, Mikel Arteta will now want his team to build some momentum amid another international break.

And a with a fit and firing Martinelli in the side, there’s no ceiling for this Arsenal team.
