26-year-old is becoming Arsenal’s very own Darwin Nunez, people are getting him all wrong

Although Gabriel Jesus is widely celebrated as one of Arsenal’s best players, he is now suffering a similar fate to Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez.

Even since his Manchester City days, Jesus has been renowned as one of the best pressing forwards in world football.

And whilst that is evidently true, it does undersell the end product that the Brazilian also possesses in his game.

Mikel Arteta’s side are now often linked with a new striker in January and beyond, with Ivan Toney’s name a familiar one among Arsenal fans.

The justification for the move is often Arsenal requiring a forward that is ruthless in front of goal.

And whilst there’s definitely merit to signing a forward like Toney, it shouldn’t be seen as a move to make up for Jesus’ shortcomings.

The Brazilian has an undeserved reputation for being wasteful in front of goal, owing to the amount of chances his excellent movement creates.

Whilst Jesus will never fare well in xG comparisons, there’s a reason why he’s getting so many opportunities in the first place.

Every great centre-forward will miss chances, simply because they are capable of getting a lot of them.

Darwin Nunez is often ridiculed for his misses, but he’s still one of the most exciting forwards in world football.

Jesus is brilliant for Arsenal, comparisons to Nunez should be a compliment

Forwards like Erling Haaland who are able to create so many chances and still be so ruthless with them are generational.

There’s no point comparing Jesus, Nunez or any other Premier League forward to Haaland.

Instead, £45m Jesus should be appreciated for the player he is, one that will always produce for his club.

As long as the Brazilian is playing for Arsenal, he will find himself on the scoresheet whether it’s through an assist or a goal.

Jesus never has a quiet game for his team, and judging him by his misses simply isn’t fair.

Signing Ivan Toney in January would be an excellent idea for Arsenal, but he should be envisioned alongside Jesus.

A forward line rotating between those two and Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka would be something to be feared.

And with Jesus able to play out wide, Saka may finally be able to receive the rests that his performances deserve.

It is odd to see players like Jesus and Nunez often missing chances, but they should be celebrated for creating them in the first place.
