Journalist James McNicholas has now highlighted what qualities Leandro Trossard brings to the Arsenal squad.
Leandro Trossard impressed for Arsenal against West Ham United on Sunday.
The Belgian attacker got on the scoresheet on the stroke of half-time, as he picked out the top corner to put the Gunners 4-0.
With Gabriel Jesus and Emile Smith Rowe both out of action for this match, Mikel Arteta handed Trossard a relatively rare Premier League start. The former Brighton and Hove Albion man took this opportunity with both hands, as he slotted in seamlessly alongside the likes of Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Martinelli, and Kai Havertz.
Since Arsenal paid £27 million to sign Trossard in the January of 2023, the 29-year-old has repeatedly proven himself to be a hugely useful squad option. He offers reliable end product, and his tactical intelligence and versatility mean that he can fill-in in a variety of positions.
However, since his arrival at the Emirates Stadium, Trossard has never been able establish himself as a regular starter on a long-term basis, as he is firmly behind Martinelli in the pecking order. This has led to speculation in the past that Trossard may well be unhappy at Arsenal.
However, there have been no signs that Trossard has ever agitated for a move away at the club, and he certainly isn’t playing like someone dissatisfied with his lot.

Arsenal must appreciate Leandro Trossard
James McNicholas also feels that the 30-cap Belgium international deserves plenty of credit for the function he serves in the Arsenal squad. Discussing Trossard on the Arsecast Extra podcast, the reporter said, “he’s a very good finisher…I think he’s been a really effective sub…remarkable rate of productivity.”
In his Arsenal career so far, across 50 appearances in all competitions, Trossard has chipped in with 10 goals and 12 assists, even without taking into consideration that 25 of those appearances have come as a substitute. Trossard has played 2,284 minutes of football for Arsenal, as per Transfermarkt, which works out to mean that he has provided a goal or an assist every 104 minutes.
Arteta will certainly appreciate what Trossard offers to Arsenal. It is vital for any successful squad to have a player who can impact matches from the bench, or hit the ground running when he is required to step into the starting XI. Trossard offers that, and his importance should not be underestimated.
