Arsenal players in multiple positions have contributed to goals this season.
The Gunners don’t have an Erling Haaland or Mohamed Salah in attack to guarantee 30 or 40 goals a year. Arsenal need everyone to chip in when required.
This has been the case for a few years now, and the same has been happening since the start of this season as well.
One Arsenal player has now had his say on how different he is in games compared to training.
Riccardo Calafiori makes interesting claim about his goalscoring
Arsenal signed Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna last summer in a £42 million deal.
The Italy international had a fantastic campaign in the Serie A last season. He backed that up with impressive performances for the Azzurri at the Euros as well.
That convinced Arsenal to sign him, and Calafiori, whenever he has played, has impressed at left-back under Mikel Arteta.
Two of the Italian’s best moments in an Arsenal shirt came against Manchester City a few months ago and against Wolves last weekend.
He scored very impressive goals against both teams, but Calafiori has now admitted that he is actually not great in front of goal during training sessions.
“To be honest, even in training, I’m not so good. But then when it comes to the game, it’s different. I don’t know, the ball goes in the net,” he said, as relayed on HaytersTV.
After scoring his goal against Wolves, Calafiori took to Instagram and wrote: “Just a pezudo who can only score bangers.”
Bad finishing in training and clinical in games? Arsenal fans will take that all day long.
Calafiori has a big problem at Arsenal now
Calafiori is a tremendously talented footballer, nobody can debate that.
The Italian, still only 22 years old, has all the attributes a player needs in an Arteta side, and he has performed very well whenever he has been fit.
However, when Calafiori was sidelined with injuries, Myles Lewis-Skelly got opportunities with the first team, and the youngster is probably on top of Arteta’s pecking order at left-back.
That means Calafiori will not start regularly, but if he can consistently have the impact that he had against Wolves after coming on, Arteta will be forced to start him.
This is a good headache to have for Arsenal, but at this moment in time, we think Lewis-Skelly will be the first name on the team sheet at left-back.
