Leandro Trossard made Arsenal history on Saturday afternoon.

Leandro Trossard scored the opening goal in the 3-1 win against Burnley. In doing so, he netted the 1,000th Arsenal goal to be scored at the Emirates Stadium in all competitions, as reported by Opta.

Arsenal left Highbury and moved to the Emirates Stadium in 2006. Brazilian midfielder Gilberto Silva scored the Gunners’ first goal at their new home. In 2014, current manager Mikel Arteta scored the 500th Arsenal goal at the ground.

Arteta has praised Trossard for his achievement. Speaking after the victory over the Clarets, the Spanish coach said, “it’s the 1000th goal at Emirates Stadium, a beautiful number, so I’m very happy with him,” as quoted by the club’s official website.

The £90,000-a-week attacker will now forever hold a place in Arsenal history. A deserved reward for his fine start to life at the north London club.

Since his arrival from Brighton in the last January transfer window, the Belgian forward has made a huge impact at Arsenal.

Leandro Trossard proving to be a bargain for Arsenal

In just 36 appearances for the club across all competitions, of which only 18 have been starts, the 28-year-old has contributed seven goals and twelve assists. Having cost £27 million, Trossard must go down as something of a bargain, at least in relative terms in the context of the modern transfer market.

It has been argued that Trossard is deserving of a larger role at Arsenal. He has certainly now shown that he can be relied upon to lead the line, in the absence of Gabriel Jesus. The 28-cap Belgium international may well now be considered ahead of Eddie Nketiah in the pecking order.

Trossard’s versatility is one of his greatest assets. His ability to play anywhere across the front line makes him an incredibly useful option for Arteta to have at his disposal. However, it may have counted against him in terms of his chances to nail down a regular starting berth in one role, as he is routinely shifted around to suit demand.
