Although he is no longer an Arsenal player, Aaron Ramsdale still showed support for Jack Porter on his big night.

Jack Porter was handed his Arsenal debut by Mikel Arteta in an EFL Cup clash on Wednesday night.

With David Raya injured, and Bournemouth loanee Neto cup-tied in this competition, 16-year-old Porter was called upon between the sticks at the Emirates Stadium for the visit of Bolton Wanderers.

Porter set an Arsenal record with this outing, becoming the youngest goalkeeper to start a competitive fixture for the North London club in 55 years.

The Hale End academy gem will have been looking to his more experienced teammates, such as Jorginho, for guidance in this game.

To have even been handed this opportunity is something the teenager ought to be extremely proud of.

Aaron Ramsdale sends message to Arsenal debutant Jack Porter

Aaron Ramsdale left Arsenal on Transfer Deadline Day, joining newly-promoted Southampton in search of regular football.

The England international, having previously been the Arsenal No. 1, fell behind Raya in the pecking order early last season and was never able to regain his starting berth.

Despite his departure, he has still been quick to show support for Porter.

Taking to Instagram, Ramsdale posted a picture of the youngster’s shirt in the dressing room with the message: “Go well bud!” Followed by a red heart emoji.

Mikel Arteta shows faith in Arsenal youngsters

Porter was not the only debutant in the starting XI against Bolton, as Josh Nichols also made his bow at right-back.

Meanwhile, fellow youngsters Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly both started for the senior side for the first time.

Nwaneri rewarded Arteta’s faith in him with his first Arsenal goal. Arsenal supporters will also have appreciated the manager’s show of trust in this clutch of teenagers, and will be hoping to see more such opportunities granted to talented prospects over the course of the campaign.
