‘Absolutely astonishing’: Chris Sutton reacts to Igor Tudor’s comments after Arsenal hammering

Igor Tudor got off to the worst possible start to life as Tottenham manager and his post-match interview has hardly helped matters either.

Tudor looked on in despair as he tried to bark orders to his Tottenham players as they sunk to another low in what has been a dismal season.

After Thomas Frank became the latest manager to get the boot by Daniel Levy, Tudor was hoping he might at least instill some pride in the Spurs squad.

Instead, he saw a lacklustre performance in which they were outclassed.

And after speaking on the game afterwards, Tudor’s comments seemed so negative that Chris Sutton was left shocked by what he’d heard.

What Igor Tudor said after seeing Tottenham lose to Arsenal

In fairness to the Spurs manager, there wasn’t a lot he could say and he basically had to just call it as he saw it.

He was being honest, and when asked about the game, he appeared to suggest there is so much wrong at Tottenham right now that it was always going to be a struggle.

“Difficult start against a team who is now in this moment,” Tudor commented.

“A different level of physical state of mind, so congratulations to them. They were much better and they deserve this win. I got the spirit which we wanted to do things, but it was not enough. It is nice to understand where we are in this moment.

“It showed me on Tuesday that we need to work hard and work hard and seriously.

“Now in this moment, the team is full of problems. The only key is to work on the training day by day and be humble. We need to be more aggressive – we need to be more compact. These are the keys.

“You understand the gap with the mental sharpness of one team and other teams. This is a thing we need to change. I saw players available to do this, but we need more time to do this.”

Despite the honesty, though, Chris Sutton couldn’t believe it.

Chris Sutton stunned as Igor Tudor comments after Arsenal defeat

There wasn’t a lot Tudor could really have said here but he did seem to suggest that Thomas Frank has left a sinking ship really.

Quite how Frank would react to those comments only he knows. But for Sutton, it was a striking admission and one that might not go down well with Spurs’ fans.

“Where do you start with that? Absolutely astonishing. If you’re Thomas Frank and listening to that, the interview is damning. You can get 11 Tottenham fans out of a pub who have the spirit,” Sutton said.

“This is from a guy who said he is 100% certain that Tottenham would stay up.”

Arsenal fans, of course, will be simply laughing at this sort of comment and the state their rivals have got themselves in.

Right now, things couldn’t be more different at the two clubs and if Spurs do somehow go down, and Arsenal win the title, it will be a moment no Gunners fan will ever forget.
