‘Admit it’: Arsenal fans all saying the same thing about Kai Havertz after Newcastle

Many Arsenal fans liked what they saw from Kai Havertz against Newcastle United.

Arsenal were far from their best as they fell to a 1-0 defeat at St James’ Park on Saturday. However, even as the Gunners gave up their unbeaten start to the Premier League season, Kai Havertz caught the eye with his display.

Havertz has had a tough start to life at the Emirates Stadium. Since joining Arsenal from Chelsea for £65 million in the recent summer transfer window, the 24-year-old has looked short on confidence and uncertain in the tactical role Mikel Arteta has given him. The Spanish coach has regularly used the German in midfield, whereas he typically led the line for the Blues.

Whilst he still struggled to make an impact in the final third against the Magpies, Havertz did put on a battling performance in the middle of the park. He was dominant in the air, aggressive in his duels, and used his physicality to great effect.

It was not a perfect performance by any means, but starting in the absence of injured club captain Martin Odegaard, Havertz did a good job and took a real step forward.

Certainly, many Arsenal fans appreciated his efforts. Havertz has come in for plenty of criticism in his days as an Arsenal player, but the north London club faithful have now heaped praise on him for his showing on Tyneside.

Arsenal fans seeing glimmers of hope for Kai Havertz

Taking to Twitter, one fan said, “Don’t let clowns decieve you. Kai Havertz today showed that he has everything it takes to play in Midfield as I’ve said. One of our best players but no one wants to drop their ego & admit it.”

Another supporter stated, “I was impressed with Havertz performance today, he’s starting to show his Bayer Leverkusen top performance, just need a little more confidence, and start scoring goals he’ll be top class.”

One other fan said, “I saw him with a fighting spirit, making things happen on the pitch. When he plays more higher on the pitch, he is definitely more confident with the ball.”

Arteta will be heartened to see Arsenal fans maintaining faith in Havertz. If he is to rediscover his best form and truly settle in to life at the Emirates Stadium then he will need their support. The fans, for their part, will need to keep being patient. Havertz needs to adapt to a new role, in a new system, in a new team. Supporters must trust in Arteta.
