Former Premier League star Gabi Agbonlahor spoke on Optus Sport about Arsenal skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after his hat-trick against Leeds United on Sunday.

The Gunners striker started ahead of Alexandre Lacazette to many people’s surprise. Auba has had a ton problems on the pitch this season, and even if people wanted him to start, it was on the left flank and not in place of his French pal.

Mikel Arteta surprised everyone and Auba delivered big time. The Arsenal skipper scored a brilliant hat-trick and he could easily have scored two or three more goals against a poor Leeds side.

Auba really impressed Agbonlahor. He claims that the former Arsenal man’s display was very much like Thierry Henry’s, which is some praise considering how incredible the legendary Frenchman was.

He said: “I’m really happy for him. He’s had a tough season, got a lot of stick after he signed his contract, and now he is showing the form that got him that contract and Arsenal really rely on him.

“It was a Thierry Henry performance today from Aubameyang. He was playing centre-forward but drifting out to the left, and I think that position suits him more.”

Auba almost matched what Henry did

The last time Henry faced Leeds United at home in the Premier League, he scored four goals. Auba could’ve easily achieved the same feat, but even without that, it was a magnificent performance.

Henry will forever be one of Arsenal’s greatest ever players for everything he did for the club. Auba might never get that status, but he can write his own history and leave an incredible legacy behind.

Arsenal fans will be hoping that Auba can build on his display from Sunday. If he keeps firing until the end of this season, we should end in a respectable position, which would be brilliant after starting the campaign as badly as we did.
