Agent of ‘world-class’ player now reveals Arsenal is ‘priority’ ahead of talks

Arsenal star Jorginho is set for contract talks to extend his deal, after an incredible recent run of form.

The Italian has been sensational when starting and was the best player on the pitch in Arsenal’s victories over Liverpool and Newcastle.

With just six months remaining on his current contract, Arsenal do have a one-year optional extension, but it was recently reported that they are set to open talks over fresh terms.

Jorginho’s agent Joao Santos recently stated that there are several top Serie A sides including Inter Milan interested in taking him on a free, in what would be a blow to Mikel Arteta, but he has now issued another positive update.

Santos has now claimed that Jorginho is happy at the Emirates Stadium, and would be open to extending his stay at the club.

“Contract expiring in June? Arsenal have our priority. Jorginho is very happy with his teammates, with Arteta and with Edu Gaspar,” he stated via Fabrizio Romano.

“We will consider the proposals and decide what’s the best option for his future.”

Jorginho joined from Chelsea last year, and has proven to be a vital leader off the pitch and a valuable asset in midfield.

Jorginho deserves a new contract at Arsenal

Jorginho is now an incredibly popular figure amongst the Arsenal fanbase, and has proven to be a reliable figure in terms of consistent performances, attitude and availability.

Given that his game relies upon his intelligence rather than his physicality, it seems likely that he will be able to continue his high-level performances for several more seasons.

Arsenal are set to sign a new midfielder, with Martin Zubimendi linked, whilst Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey could both end up leaving.

Arteta has recently described him as “world-class,” and it is clear that he views the Italian as a crucial part of his squad.

Jorginho is often seen coaching his teammates from the sidelines when he isn’t starting, and on the pitch he is one of the most vocal players in the team.

It was unclear whether he would accept a backup role for the next few seasons given the interest in him, but his agent’s comments appear promising.

Given that the Champions League and Euro winner is the most experienced winner in the squad, his influence off the pitch is enough reason to keep him, but coupled with his excellent performances, a new contract would be a no-brainer for a player of his quality.
