Alan Pardew makes wild claim about Arteta as Arsenal manager’s future remains uncertain

Former Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has now made a bold claim about the future of Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta.

There is currently a level of uncertainty about Mikel Arteta’s future at Arsenal. 

Whilst Arsenal are confident that Arteta will pen a new deal with the club, and the Spanish coach is keen to stay at the Emirates Stadium, fans will remain anxious about the situation until pen is officially put to paper.

As things stand, Arteta’s contract with the North London club is set to expire next summer. There would certainly be plenty of interest in the manager’s services from elsewhere, were it to become suspected that he could be prised away from Arsenal. 

Barcelona have been credited with an interest in making Arteta their manager in the past. There has also been speculation that the Arsenal boss could ultimately replace his former mentor Pep Guardiola at Manchester City. 

However, Alan Pardew has now named the Arsenal boss as one of the ideal candidates for another high profile role.

There is a sense that Gareth Southgate is unlikely to stay on as England manager, after his side were beaten by Spain in the final of Euro 2024 on Sunday night.

The former defender has undeniably been a successful England manager in many respects, having taken the nation to two major tournament finals. However, his failure to win a trophy and his defensive tactics have led to frustration, and there is certainly a notion that the national team is now in need of something new.

Pardew has now had his say on who should replace Southgate, if he does step down from his England post.

As quoted by talkSPORT, Pardew said: “My number one is Pep Guardiola. Go and get the best. He knows English football, as he’s at Man City, and I think we could prize him away from there, he probably needs a new challenge.

“Also on my list, I’ve got Jurgen Klopp, Mikel Arteta, Graham Potter, Eddie Howe, Jose Mourinho and I’ve got Sean Dyche.”

Would Arteta swap Arsenal for England?

It is hard to imagine Arteta seriously considering the England job at this stage in his career, even in the unlikely scenario that he were to be offered the post this summer.

The former midfielder still has a great deal he wants to achieve in North London. Arteta has promised Arsenal fans that silverware is on the way, and he has made great progress with the Gunners. Now is not the time for him to consider walking away from his project with Arsenal.
