Alan Shearer ‘absolutely loved’ what Unai Emery did on touchline in Aston Villa win v Arsenal

Alan Shearer was full of praise for Unai Emery after what the Aston Villa manager was caught doing after Leon Bailey’s opener against Arsenal.

The Villians shocked the Emirates Stadium yesterday with a 2-0 win against the Gunners, handing Arsenal their first Premier League loss of 2024 and putting Manchester City top of the standings, where a fourth title in a row could now be on for Pep Guardiola.

Whilst the likes of Martin Odegaard and Kai Havertz impressed for Arsenal, it was ultimately Villa’s day in the spotlight, with the Villa Park side again showing just how far they’ve come under Emery and how bright their future now is under the Spanish coach.

And Shearer loved one thing he saw the former Arsenal manager do on the touchline.

Speaking on Match of the Day 2, the former England international noted how crazy Emery went when Bailey opened the scoring for Villa, with the former Emirates Stadium man seen going nuts and celebrating like crazy.

With Emery now doing the double over his former side, it’s no real wonder why the Spanish coach was in a great mood after Bailey’s opening goal, with Ollie Watkins shortly making it 2-0 to Villa in what was a day to forget for Arsenal.

Shearer said when detailing Emery’s celebrations against Arsenal: “I absolutely love this. I’m not for this ‘not celebrating against your former club’ nonsense.

“It’s a tactical masterclass from him, and he’s done the double over his old club, what a job he’s doing, what a season they’re having Aston Villa.

Arsenal losing to Villa was something few would have predicted even with Emery seemingly cracking the code on how to beat his former side in recent years, with Mikel Arteta’s side now unlikely to win the Premier League.

City being top usually means one thing, with the winning run now set to begin as the Manchester giants look set to win their fourth Premier League title in a row with Arsenal again coming up short in their bid to claim the league.

And yesterday showed that Arteta still has a lot to learn, with the Basque coach clearly struggling against the likes of Emery and in need of a new plan for next season for when Arsenal face Villa.
