Alan Shearer has suggested that an Arsenal star he rates highly could now be replaced by his country at Euro 2024 for a Chelsea player.

The Gunners have had mixed success at this summer’s tournament, with the likes of David Raya and Kai Havertz impressing at the Euros whilst Jakub Kiwior and now Declan Rice have been criticised for their performances.

With 11 players competing at the Euros, Arsenal are of the most represented clubs at this summer’s competition, with the Gunners likely to have a player on the winning nation if things go to plan for the north London side.

Yet Premier League legend Shearer has suggested that one Arsenal star could be replaced by a Chelsea man.

Shearer believes Cole Palmer could replace Bukayo Saka for England

Speaking on the Rest is Football, Shearer made the claim that Chelsea forward Cole Palmer could replace Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka for England, with the Emirates Stadium star struggling yesterday against Slovenia.

With Palmer giving England an immediate boost after replacing Saka in the second-half, calls for the former Manchester City talent to replace the Arsenal talisman for England are logical, with Shearer seemingly on board with the idea.

Shearer said when asked if replacing Saka with Palmer would be beneficial for England heading into the last 16 of this summer’s Euros: “Possibly. I think Palmer did really well when he came on.

“I love Saka as a footballer, I think he’s a great player, great attitude, great skill, he did amazingly well in the first 30 minutes of the first game, but he hasn’t done a lot since, and Palmer coming on with 20 minutes and doing really well, I love his attitude and his arrogance.”

Saka is the only logical right-wing choice for England at the Euros

Palmer might have impressed on his tournament debut for England, yet given how clutch Saka has been for England over the years, the Arsenal man should remain the only logical choice to start out on the right for the Three Lions.

Whilst the 22-year-old’s performances have been off, the same logic can be applied to virtually every England player, with Gareth Southgate yet to crack the code on how to get the best out of this squad.

Indeed, whilst Palmer is an outstanding player for England to have, Saka remains the only real choice to start out on the right, with the Arsenal man the ideal man for the job heading into the knockout stages.
