Arsenal secured a 2-0 victory over Wolves to kick off their Premier League campaign, and there were some standout performers.
Mikel Arteta’s side were not at their best, but they secured three points and a clean sheet despite some early-season rustiness affecting some players.
Despite missing most of pre-season after reaching the final of Euro 2024, Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka were both in the starting lineup, as two of Arsenal’s best players.
Rice was forced off with an injury complaint late on, after which Arteta cited the lack of match fitness as a result for Rice’s cramp, but praised his display.
The winger was even more impressive though, as Saka proved the difference with an excellent assist to set up Kai Havertz’s opener, before doubling the lead with an outstanding strike, and he has now been praised for his performance.

Alan Shearer praises Bukayo Saka after Arsenal beat Wolves
Speaking on BBC Match Of The Day, Premier League icon Alan Shearer highlighted Saka’s role in Arsenal’s victory.
“First of all, I’ve just got to say how great Saka was today. One goal, one assist. Absolutely superb, he was,” Shearer stated.
Saka fired in five shots on goal, as well as creating five chances as he caused Wolves continual danger, and his second-half strike came at a time when Arsenal found themselves under pressure.
The 22-year-old stepped up to carry his side to victory, and if he can continue his decisive performances, Saka can lead Arsenal to the title.
Alan Shearer backs Arsenal to win Premier League
Shearer has also claimed that Arsenal can go one step further and win the Premier League ahead of Manchester City this season.
“[Arsenal had] the best defence in the league last season, they’ve gone out and signed a defender. We expect Merino to come in next week. 89 points last season, took it all the way to the final day. I think they can do it [win the title], yeah,” Shearer added.
There is still a long way to go, but Arsenal have started with a win, and will hope that their new signings can quickly settle to help improve an already strong side.
